The Negotiator

 

My twine game is where the player becomes a rookie negotiator in intend to resolve a hostage kidnapping situation in the best way possible, with a twist. 

The aim of my narrative game is the ability to choose different paths that lead to different results or endings. The hardest part in achieving this aspect is the amount of scenes I need to duplicate and make alterations to scenes for individuality, but all under the consistency of the narrative. For example, For the same story, my hostage negotiation narrative can have two different paths on the same main story-line, where player’s selection would unlock additional choices or paths. For most scenes, I have only included 2 choices to maximize the risk possibilities. Moreover, the implementation of a timer to stimulate the illusion of greater risks. In the end, through the constructing of this choices-matter narrative game, the most underestimated challenge and encounter for me is the detailing the story’s microscopic connections and diversity under the integrity of the macroscopic narrative. 

Inspirations:

  • Detroit: Become Human - Detective Conor’s first mission in the rescue of a little girl. 

This game draws emphasis on player’s decision making skills, and the ability to overcome puzzles and riddles to achieve in better possibilities for success.
